Rainy Day Fun
We asked our KindyROO parents, “how do you and your little ones have fun inside on a rainy day?” Here are some of their suggestions:
Fill a baby bath with warm water and play sink and float games with different objects.
Move the toys into another room - a different atmosphere.
Dance to different sorts of music.
Set up an obstacle course using furniture such as chairs, high chair, coffee table and crawl over and under. Or choose a variety of flat objects like place mats and use these as "stepping stones." Extend the stepping stone game by playing music and 'freezing' on a stepping stone when the music stops.
Close the curtains, switch off the lights and use torches to create shapes and shadows.
Read a story.
Make a tent with sheets and blankets over chairs. Have a picnic in your tent.
Close the bedroom doors and light up the hallway (bowling alley) and play skittles.
Put ten 'bottles' on a wall (skittles on a box) and sing 'Ten Green Bottles' as the 'bottles' fall.
Bring the outdoors inside: rug up and go for a walk to collect some interesting things -leaves, feathers, pretty rocks, sticks or flowers. Then play with your 'found objects'. Make a leaf tracing with crayon, make a 'road' with real stones, hide 'surprises' under containers and guess what is under each container.
Have a puppet show.
